Short description of issue
Can’t select ‘Unlisted’ products in Theme Editor product picker on product template
Link to Shopify Store
N/A
Reproduction steps
-
Set a product status to ‘Unlisted’ (this is an active product that can be purchased if customers are given the URL)
-
Open Theme Editor and navigate to a product template
-
Under ‘Preview’, select ‘Change’, and search for the ‘Unlisted’ product
-
The ‘Unlisted’ product does not appear, even though it’s a live product accessible by customers with a link
Additional info
The ‘Unlisted’ product status was added in October 2025, to address longstanding issues with merchants needing to have ‘hidden’ but live products.
It’s a welcome addition, but the Theme Editor wasn’t updated to be able to preview those products at the same time.
Theme Editor does support previewing ‘Draft’ products, which is a special case, because draft products are not normally accessible at all.
By comparison, ‘Unlisted’ products are really no different to ‘Active’ products when it comes to previewing them in Theme Editor.
It’s just that the product picker only shows ‘Active’ or ‘Draft’.
Theme Editor does already support previewing the ‘Unlisted’ products, as you can modify the Theme Editor URL parameter ‘previewPath’ to target ‘Unlisted’ products, which works perfectly fine.
Therefore it’s just a simple case of showing ‘Unlisted’ products in the product picker here.
Very frustrating problem for merchants, but it seems like a simple bug to squash on Shopify’s side.
