Custom frontend shopify API integration

I have my own website (aaruke.com) with a custom frontend, and I want user activity from my website to appear in the Shopify dashboard.

Is there a way to integrate my website with Shopify so that whenever a user visits, signs up, logs in, or interacts with my site, that data is reflected in Shopify Analytics or the Shopify dashboard?

Specifically, I’m looking to:

  • Show website traffic in the Shopify dashboard.
  • Sync customer sign-ups and logins with Shopify.
  • Feed user activity from my custom website into Shopify.

Has anyone implemented something similar? Which Shopify APIs or integration approach would you recommend?

Hey @Aaruke, yes, you can connect a custom frontend to Shopify. There are separate approaches for analytics and customer accounts:

  • Website traffic and shopping activity: sendShopifyAnalytics supports sending page-view and add-to-cart events to Shopify Analytics, with consent handling as part of the setup. The documentation includes a Next.js example. If you’re using Hydrogen, its analytics tracking guide covers the built-in integration.
  • Customer sign-ups and logins: The Customer Account API lets you integrate Shopify customer authentication into your frontend. If you want to keep your existing registration system, Admin GraphQL customerSet can create or update customer profiles in Shopify. Profile syncing and shared sign-in are separate integrations.

For customer accounts, are you looking to have Shopify handle sign-in, or keep your existing login system and sync customer profiles into Shopify?
