I have 1500-ish stores with my app installed. I am slowly upgrading them to a new pricing plan, but one with discounts for customers that have had the app installed for a long period of time.
eg. 5+ years, 50% discount on new subscription plan, etc.
I use Shopify Managed Pricing (now App Pricing? or in transition on dashboard?).
With the old manual subscription creation API I could just programmatically do this, is this possible now?
Private plans in the app listing page could work, but I’m limited to 20 stores per private plan — that would break for me very quickly.
Hi @patrick, I had a look for you. I can confirm there’s no programmatic equivalent of appSubscriptionCreate under App Pricing. A subscription starts when the merchant approves a plan on your hosted plan selection page.
If those 1500 stores are still on legacy Billing API subscriptions the migration flow moves existing subscriptions that map to a plan you’ve prepared, so you could create App Pricing plans at your discounted price points and let matching subscriptions move over. Stores whose price doesn’t match stay on the Billing API until the Migration API ships.
For the tenure discount itself, private plans are capped at 15 plans with 20 stores each, so they won’t scale. Today the supported route is a per-merchant discount created in the Partner Dashboard, and there’s no bulk option for that.
I’m confirming with the team whether the migration flow covers private plans and where bulk discounting is headed. Are those installs still on legacy Billing API subscriptions, or already on App Pricing plans?
So a private plan per tenure cohort at the discounted price point (5+ years at 50% off, and so on) now scales to 1500 installs without hitting a cap.
If those stores are still on legacy Billing API subscriptions, the app migration CLI can move existing subscriptions onto your App Pricing plans, including private plans. It’s in Early Access, so you’d sign up through the form in that changelog post. For stores already on App Pricing plans, per-merchant discounts from the Partner Dashboard are still the route, and there’s no bulk option for those yet.
