Dev Dashboard custom app cannot request read_all_orders — no API access page

I run an independent vinyl record shop (orbitwax.com) and built a custom, single-store app for it. The app is in the Dev Dashboard, custom distribution, installed on our own store only. A large share of our orders are pre-orders for records that have not been pressed yet. The time between a customer paying and the record arriving is routinely three to six months. Our oldest open, unfulfilled orders are currently almost 90 days old. We therefore need read_all_orders. Two concrete problems without it: 1. Six of our open orders are older than 60 days and are invisible to the app, so the customers who have waited longest cannot be served or informed. 2. More seriously: when a delayed pressing finally arrives, the app reads the order’s fulfillmentOrders to create the fulfillment. For an order past 60 days that read returns nothing, so we cannot ship what we sold. The documented way to request the scope is Partner Dashboard → API access → Access requests. That page does not exist for Dev Dashboard apps, and App settings ends at App icon. I have no Partner organization; the app was created in the Dev Dashboard under our own store’s organization. The legacy admin-created custom app route now redirects to the Dev Dashboard as well. How should a Dev Dashboard custom app request read_all_orders? The app reads orders only. Its single write scope is write_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, used for our own shipments. Order data stays in our own store’s app and is never shared with third parties.

@Field_Of_Sound the Partner Dashboard API access request flow only exists for apps under a partner org, so a Dev Dashboard app without one won’t have that page at all right now. I’d open a ticket with Shopify Partner Support directly and reference your app’s client ID, since there’s no self-serve request path for orgless custom apps yet. Worth asking them too whether the old private-app precedent (read_all_orders auto-granted, no toggle needed) still carries over to Dev Dashboard custom apps.

Custom apps created via the merchant-owned Dev Dashboard are already authorized to use the read_all_orders scope. If your app needs it, declare it in your list of scopes when you release a new version. Once you access the app and authorize the new scope, you’ll be able to retrieve the data you need.

Thanks Paige, that’s the right path. I was wrong to point you to a Partner Support ticket. Declare read_all_orders in the scopes on a new app version and authorize it, and the orders should be available.
