Hi everyone, Looking for clarity on requirement 1.2.1 (Shopify Billing API) from other developers who’ve been through this.
My app has these two things: 1. A Shopify integration that is 100% free — connecting a store and using all Shopify-related features (product delivery, discount codes, etc.) costs nothing. 2. Separate paid plans (unrelated to Shopify) that govern general platform limits — things like message volume, branding removal, and automation flow limits. These apply to all users of our platform, Shopify-connected or not, and are currently charged via Stripe on our own website.
My app got paused under 1.2.1, and Shopify support confirmed that even though our Shopify integration itself is free, ALL paid plan charges in the app — including ones unrelated to Shopify features — must go through Shopify Billing API / App Pricing once the app is distributed via the Shopify App Store.
Has anyone else run into this? Specifically: - Did you have to migrate your entire platform’s billing to Shopify Billing, even for charges that have nothing to do with Shopify functionality? - Or were you able to keep your Shopify integration listed as “Free” and handle unrelated platform billing separately (e.g. is there a way to scope this to just Shopify-originated users vs your whole user base)? - Any tips on structuring plans in Shopify App Pricing when the “Shopify feature” part is free but the rest of the platform is paid?
my app is non-embed
Appreciate any real-world experience on this — trying to figure out the cleanest way to implement this without duplicating our entire billing system.
Thanks!
