One more “genuine” review from a customer who blackmails us every month to give him 60$ credit:
First time we refuse, immediately get 1-star review, nobody in Shopify cares.
They’re like a mafia operating on their own.
These guys aren’t even trying. Nearly every store that has left a review installed the app on the same day, left their review on the same day 3 months later, and reviewed all three of their apps. It’s so obvious.
I guess this is what happens when there’s no real punishment for doing it?
This is the frustrating part. It’s clearly visible to anyone who looks, but nothing happens on Shopify’s end, even after direct reports.
What makes this even more frustrating is the source of fake reviews and malicious behavior stems from the Shopify sign up process and from what I can tell Shopify has done nothing to address this.
We have had problems with malicious stores for years and Shopify does not care. We had one malicious store that we blocked and the user just kept creating Shopify stores and trying again. We blocked they created a new store. They created 3 stores in a few hours. We reported this to Shopify they tell us it’s our problem. Well yes it is, especially when you delete legit reviews and do not delete known false reviews.
The management of this has been a total joke. Now we’re in 2026 and it has reached new heights! All this BS and the source of these has not changed. The sign up process needs vetting but this will affect the bottom line so nothing is done. Let the devs suffer. They do not care at all!
Interesting take, I personally never considered that fake reviews could be bound by laws. Because Shopify is not acting, we may be able to act by ourselves.
Not sure it’s practically doable, just throwing what comes to mind: but could we setup a legal entity where we, partners, can join forces to start actions with the justice toward app owners that are in a country in which fake reviews are forbidden?
