Not Possible to Have Versionless Storefront API Endpoint?

Client pays for something that need storefront api access. Product title and id. Work done using stable storefront API version and dev moves on with other projects. 2 years later client code query still work but stops working due to no longer supported API endpoint path. How to avoid this?

Now it seem not possible to avoid this scenario. If not possible this means every shop owner or dev needs maintenance contract to make sure URL is changed. API query will still work since product id and title are not removed. Auth method has not changed. Only thing that is changed is endpoint’s path. This feel like crazy design and I hope I am wrong.

There is no versionless Storefront API endpoint. However, a URL does not stop working solely because its specified version is retired. Shopify automatically falls requests forward to the oldest supported stable version.

This means the URL itself does not require an annual change. But the query can still break if a later API version removes or changes fields it uses, so we recommends periodically testing against and specifying a supported version.
