We have been running our Point of Sale app extension for more than 1 year. We test it using the Shopify Point of Sale application.
Without changing any code, it suddenly started giving the following error to our customers:
“There is an error in this extension. To repair it, delete and reinstall this app from the smart grid.”
When we run npm run deploy and push the extension again, it deploys successfully without showing any critical errors. However, when we test it in the Shopify Point of Sale application on iPad, it still shows the same error.
Additionally, when I long-press the tile, click the “X” button to remove the extension from the smart grid, and then click the blue “Save” button, the POS application does not even save the applied changes.
Could anyone please guide us on what is going on here?
Because in the iPad Shopify POS app, when we click on the app block tile, it shows:
"Error loading extension
There is an error in this extension. To repair it, delete and reinstall this app from the smart grid."
Could anyone please let us know why these issues are occurring?
@Ajay_Rabari no errors logged on our side for your extensions. Looks like the only suspicious thing is that you recently updated to 2025-07, and that’s around the time you started seeing failures?
Thank you for your response. Yes, we had not seen this issue before version 2025-07. However, it had been months since we last updated the API version, and we updated it because Shopify CLI was showing an error asking us to update the API version.
Could you please try adding this app’s Point of Sale extension to check whether you see the error: “Error loading extension”?
One more thing, I have replicated this extension in the demo/staging app to fix the issues. We can see the extension in the Shopify Admin panel view editor page of the Point of Sale app, but I am unable to find or add the extension in the Shopify Point of Sale application on mobile phones and iPads.
