Storefront API bug when changing line item variant

We’re experiencing a similar cart API bug but it’s affecting ALL cart
items. When we add 4 items via cartLinesAdd, the mutation
returns all 4 items correctly. But when we query the same cart, it only
returns 1 item. This happens on regular products without any discounts.

Hi Alan I think i finally managed to get it done. Haven´t had the time before here another loom ( Revitera Schweiz · Kaching Cart · Shopify - 9 September 2025 | Loom ) showing what I did and also the x-request-id i hope are the correct once:

@Alan_G Is there any kind of update on this? We have merchants reporting issues with variant selection/subscription upgrade with BXGY very often and it has been causing quite a bit of issues for the past 3 months now.

Can there be any way at least to let merchants know that this is a bug in Shopify’s API, just so that we don’t take the fall for it as partners, since this is out of our control?

Hey @Zak - thanks for following up and you patience on this. I still don’t have a concrete update to share, but I have reached back out to see if we can expedite looking into this for you. In terms of letting merchants know about the issue, I think it would be fair to say something like “Shopify is investigating this internally as a possible issue”. I can’t quite confirm the bug label at the moment, but we can definitely let merchants know that it is something we are investigating on our end on your/their behalf.

It’s been a couple of weeks. We’ve filed a Plus support ticket, but the resolution timeframe is still unknown.

This issue with BXGY discounts in the Storefront GraphQL API continues to negatively impact our App Store ratings, as merchants assume it’s our fault rather than an API issue.

It’s been over 4 months since this was escalated. Could you provide a concrete timeline for resolution? This has been really problematic.
