Unable to Configure ping_message_callback in App Deployment

Dear Shopify Developer Support,

I have a Shopify app that was previously connected successfully with Shopify Ping/Inbox.
On September 10, when I deployed the app, I was still able to configure the Ping Message Callback as shown in the screenshots.

However, in my recent deployments, the Ping Message Callback configuration option no longer appears, and as a result, my app is unable to connect with Shopify Inbox messages.

I also tried manually adding the ping_message_callback section in the shopify.app.toml file and redeployed, but I received the following error:

Could you please help me understand how to properly set up the Ping Message Callback again, or if this configuration has been deprecated?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey @PENGUIN_SECRET_AGENC - thanks for reaching out :waving_hand: . Would you be open to sharing how you set up the Ping Message Callback integration initially? The Ping product has been sunset for some time in favour of Shopify Inbox:

My understanding is that this API wasn’t public, so just wanted to see how you were using it. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Alan, thanks for getting back to me!

To clarify how I previously set up the Ping Message Callback integration:
In my app’s settings, there used to be a configuration field where I could register a Ping Message Callback URL (a webhook endpoint from my system).

Whenever a new message was sent from Shopify Ping, Shopify would send a callback (webhook) to that URL.
My system would then process that incoming message and respond accordingly — this allowed my app to stay synchronized with Shopify Ping conversations in real time.

However, in recent deployments, that configuration option for registering the Ping Message Callback URL has disappeared from the app setup page.
As a result, my app can no longer receive message events or communicate with Shopify Inbox.

Could you please confirm whether the Ping Message Callback functionality has been fully deprecated or if there’s an equivalent API/event available under Shopify Inbox that I can migrate to?

Hey @PENGUIN_SECRET_AGENC, following up here with some info as I was able to speak with some folks internally on this for you. I was able to confirm that we have deprecated support for the Ping integration and at the moment there isn’t a workaround for re-integrating with Inbox.

I definitely understand that it’s not ideal, so if you’re open to sharing your app’s use case here I can bring that to some folks internally and look into setting up a feature request for you at the very least. Please let me know if I can help out further - just ping me here :slight_smile:
