Unable to create a dev store

I have reproduced the issue on the latest CLI version.

Reproduction steps

It is impossible to create a Shopify dev store.

  • There is no “Create Store” button in dev.shopify.com
  • Creating one via CLI also fails (I am on newest version 4.8.0).

Hey @kudze, had a look at this for you. Based on the symptoms (no Create Store button plus the CLI create failing with a validation error), the most likely cause is that your user doesn’t have the development stores permission in the organization.

In the Dev Dashboard, store creation is gated by the store management permissions. It’s possible to have app development rights without store-creation rights, in which case the button stays hidden and the store-create call from the CLI gets rejected. The permission is listed as “Create, and manage development stores” in the partner organization permissions table.

The fix is to ask your org owner to either grant that permission or assign the App developer role, which includes it. Then retry shopify store create dev and the same command should go through. If the permission was already granted or it still fails, post the full verbose output and I can dig further.
