Undocumented issue with discounts not applying to usage-charges in Shopify app pricing

Hey y’all,

We recently switched to Shopify app pricing and added some usage charges to our app plans, since doing so I cannot apply discounts from the Partner UI to any plan due to these charges.

I get the error: “Discount is only applicable to single flat-rate subscriptions”.

I cannot find anything in the docs about this limitation: Offer subscription discounts

Does anyone know if this is expected or if a change to support discounts on usage-based pricing is in the works?

It would be really nice to be able to offer discounts here instead of setting up a custom plan for merchants. I don’t think we’d ever want to discount the usage charge, rather I just want the base monthly charge to be discounted.

Hey @Jivan, thanks for flagging this. The current behaviour you are seeing is expected. You can only apply discounts to single flat rate subscriptions. Custom plans would be the way to go, as you mentioned.

This isn’t documented very well, so I’m going to look at getting those updated. I’ll also pass on the feature suggestion for you, as it makes sense to apply the discount on only the subscription portion.

Appreciate it @KyleG-Shopify - being able to apply discounts to a merchant (regardless of usage-charges) seems like a standard feature, so I’m hopeful this can be resolved sooner than later.
