Hey Shopifolks,
earlier this month, Google Maps Platform bumped up their prices again. They used to give $200 in credits (each month) with every GCP account, which covered about 31,400 map loads a month. Now, with the new pricing, merchants only get 10,000 map loads, and anything extra is $7 USD per 1,000 loads. That adds up fast.
I’d love if you could rethink either covering the Map component costs, like I mentioned before here: Feature request: Shopify-provided Google Maps API for merchants, or letting us use something more budget-friendly. Maybe a component powered by MapLibre GL JS? It’s open-source and works with different map tile providers. Merchants would really appreciate the help. Google Maps pricing feels a bit out of control, and it’s stressing merchants out over surprise charges.
Let me know what you think!
