The Create template feature enables merchants to create alternative templates for various parts of their store. However, this does not apply to the theme’s home page index template. Since the home page does not have resources that require association with different templates, the default index template should be sufficient.
That being said, home template index can be contextualized to support different markets/buyer contexts.

So how is it recommended to do A/B Testing with multiple home pages or plan for a complete different home page for sale seasons?
Theres different ways of structuring A/B tests. Another example could be differentiating on themes.
A: {your-store}.com?preview_theme_id={a-theme-id}
B: {your-store}.com?preview_theme_id={b-theme-id}
You could also try apps, like Shoplift or some of the others.
