App ads revenue doesn't line up

Hoping someone can help me understand how revenue is calculated on App Store ads.

My app costs $399 USD, yet the App Store ads say revenue = $404.99 for one install (1.5% more than the app costs).

According to Shopify’s docs:

The total customer revenue received from your ad. Revenue is the total amount paid by the merchant and not adjusted for revenue share. Revenue is reported on the impression date. Revenue is available for impressions served on or after May 5, 2020.

How can the total revenue be more than the cost of the app?

Hey @Ilana_Davis :waving_hand: - we can definitely take a closer look into this! Could you share your app/API client ID in the thread here?

I can take a look on our end to see if we can account for the difference you’re seeing there.

Hey @Alan_G thanks so much for responding so quickly. Errr, I think this is my app id 862138

No worries @Ilana_Davis - I think I found your app on my end here. I may have to DM you to follow up since we may need to discuss some more sensitive info specific to your Partner Account, but I’ll loop back with you when I have more info!

Hey @Ilana_Davis :waving_hand: - just following up here. We were able to do some more digging into this and can confirm this is expected (although it definitely a little confusing for sure).

There are a few things happening here which are causing the price to look a little unexpected. Without sharing too much confidential info, what I can share is that it looks like for that particular transaction, the merchant was located in Australia.

This means that the purchase was made in AUD, and we’d account for any. foreign currency exchange/difference.

A foreign currency conversion fee is also applied when calculating your revenue. These fees are included in your ad revenue tracking, even thought they aren’t “technically” revenue, if that makes sense.

The F/X fee is 2.5%, so it should reflect the additional value you’re seeing there.

Hope this helps/makes sense and helps other folks who might be seeing the same issue - let me know if we can clarify anything on our end here.

Hey @Alan_G

Thanks so much for the update.

My math shows the difference is 1.5%, not 2.5%.
399 x 1.015 = 404.99
399 x 1.025 = 408.76

Either way, at least I have a better understanding, and I’m not looking for exact math. Just making sure we’re on the same page.
