We have a client who has operated a B2C website on Shopify for several years. However, we are now extending it to allow online ordering for B2B customers and need a feature that Shopify does not appear to support: PO numbers as a dynamic part of the credit card billing description for a given transaction.
Our B2B customers need to enter the PO associated with a credit card order (the customers are large institutional clients and they expect see the PO number in the billing descriptor for the transaction, for easy reconciliation). Capturing the PO number using the cart notes, for this purpose, would be fine. However, there does not appear to be a way to put this dynamic value (ie. PO number) as part of the billing descriptor with Shopify Payments. I don’t know if this would also be an issue with other 3rd Party payment processors.
The issue for us is that our client’s competitors are already able to use dynamic billing descriptors (by using other CMS’s), so we may be forced to move away from Shopify if we can’t find a way forward on this. The dollar value of orders going through this shop is significant, so if there was an approach to delivering this through a custom app then we would be interested in exploring this with a developer.
Looking for advice. Many thanks, in advance, for your thoughts on this.
