We’re building an app that allows brands to message individuals on social media and track orders for these customers. We are going through app review as an embedded unlisted app.
Our app was flagged for not satisfying 1.2.1. Use Shopify Managed Pricing or the Shopify Billing API. A majority of our pricing right now happens externally through the team. Installing the shopify app itself is free at this time. In the app, there is an option to select “I have approval to charge merchants outside of the Shopify Billing API”.
How do we get this approval?
Furthermore, is there any way I can contact a support person? This application process has been quite difficult and unclear for us. We have all the resources to get things through, and we need to get this live as soon as possible.
Please let me know how I can reach out to.
@amullick the “approval to charge outside Shopify Billing API” option is specifically for apps that fall under certain exempt categories, like B2B or enterprise deals where pricing is negotiated directly. Getting that approval isn’t a self-serve process, you’d need to go through Shopify Partner Support and make a case for why your pricing model requires off-platform billing.
That said, since your app is unlisted, the path of least resistance here is probably just implementing the Shopify Billing API with a free plan and keeping your external pricing model separate from what’s inside the app. The app itself stays free on Shopify’s side, and your team handles the actual commercial relationship outside. That way you satisfy requirement 1.2.1 without restructuring how you actually charge customers.
For reaching support directly, the Partner Support form is at partners.shopify.com/support, that’s the fastest route for app review specific questions.
Thanks for the help! the link above doesn’t seem to work.
@yavuzoktay Can I used shopify’s managed pricing? I don’t feel like implementing the billing API makes the most sense for us here.
