Hi Shopify team,
I’m testing the new native Purchase Order GraphQL APIs in Admin API 2026-10 for a public Shopify App Store app.
The 2026-10 documentation for inventoryPurchaseOrders and inventoryPurchaseOrder currently states that the read_inventory_purchase_orders access scope is required.
I have verified on a development store that:
inventoryPurchaseOrdersdoes not exist in API 2026-07- it works successfully in API 2026-10
- the Physical Inventory feature preview is not enabled
read_inventory_purchase_orderswas automatically granted during the dev preview- the store is on a normal non-Plus development plan
- purchase orders and line items can be retrieved successfully
However, read_inventory_purchase_orders does not currently appear in the public Access scopes reference.
I also found the August discussion where read_inventory_purchase_orders could not be added self-service and Shopify temporarily enabled Purchase Order reads through the existing read_inventory scope for stores using the Physical Inventory preview.
Before building and submitting a public App Store app around this API, could someone from Shopify clarify the intended GA behavior for API 2026-10?
Specifically:
-
When API 2026-10 becomes stable, can PUBLIC Shopify App Store apps request
read_inventory_purchase_orders? -
Can it be declared normally in
shopify.app.toml/ managed installation, or does it require Shopify approval or allowlisting? -
Is
read_inventory_purchase_ordersintended to be available to apps distributed through the Shopify App Store? -
Alternatively, should public apps continue using
read_inventoryto read native Purchase Orders in API 2026-10? -
Is its absence from the Access scopes reference simply because 2026-10 is currently a release candidate?
-
Apart from the merchant user’s permission to view purchase orders, are there any plan or distribution restrictions?
I’m specifically asking about PUBLIC App Store distribution, not only development or custom apps.
Thanks.
