Company VAT number field not showing at checkout despite being enabled

Short description of issue

The Company VAT number field is enabled in checkout settings, but it does not appear during checkout.

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the Company VAT number field not appearing at checkout.

I sell digital products from France to both B2C and B2B customers in the EU. I need to keep VAT enabled for EU B2C customers through OSS, but I also need EU B2B customers with a valid VAT ID to be able to enter their VAT number and get reverse charge / 0% VAT.

My current setup:

Shopify Tax is active

EU tax region is active

Company name is set to Optional

Company VAT number is set to Optional

VAT on digital goods is enabled

My products are in the digital goods VAT collection

However, when I test the checkout with different EU billing addresses, the Company field appears, but the Company VAT number field never appears. VAT is still calculated normally.

Is there any specific condition required for this field to show up? Does the native Shopify VAT number field work with digital products, or is an app required for this use case?
