Compare at price visibility in the Admin

Short description of issue

Product page in the Admin - the Compare At Price is no longer visible/editable without clicking through to the individual variant

Reproduction steps

Admin → Products → Select any product with multiple variants → Scroll to variants section

In previous iterations of the UI we could edit both price and compare at price without the need to enter either the bulk editor or click into an individual variant. This means two things:

  • it’s not immediately obvious what variants are on sale causing things to get missed easily
  • what used to be a quick pricing adjustment became a multiple step procedure

I propose we bring back the visibility and ability to edit the compare at price in the main product page variants section, without needing to enter the bulk editor or click through to individual variants.

Additional info

Side note - it’s currently possible to enter a compare at price that’s lower than the current price. It would be nice to have a setting that prevents this.

Hey @meandillar - thanks for laying this out. I definitely get how this makes it harder to spot which variants are on sale and adds extra steps to a previously quick update.

I’m happy to pass this feedback along on our end, including your suggestion for a guardrail when the compare-at price is lower than the current price. A couple of details would help me capture the impact:

  • Roughly how many variants do you typically review or update at a time, and how often?
  • Is the bigger pain point seeing which variants are on sale, editing compare-at prices inline, or both?

Thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated. Our store has over 4000 active products, many of which have multiple variants, and we often have products with only certain sizes or flavours on sale. Members of our team are constantly in and out of the product editor making adjustments. To answer your questions:

  • It depends - sometimes we’re updating one or two, sometimes multiple, sometimes just scanning the product to see what variants are on sale
  • Both of these are equally important, and both not possible since the UI update

Hey @meandillar - thanks, for this! I can definitely see how losing both the at-a-glance visibility and inline editing adds up quickly.

I’ve logged this feedback on our end, and also captured your suggestion about warning when a compare-at price is lower than the current price.

I can’t guarantee a change or timeline, but just wanted to update you on things here.
