Donations and App Revenue share

Hello, I run GoodAPI and currently our customers contribute to climate impact initiatives such as tree planting and plastic removal, and we bill usage charges through billing API.

A lot of my customers are asking for social impact causes in the app e.g. donate to breast cancer research, pet shelters, children’s aid etc. These would all be non profits.

I am really keen to expand the app to have one place where brans can make climate and social impact but the problem is that Shopify’s app revenue share of 15% would be calculated on the customer donations. So if a brand and their customers donate $1000 to breast cancer non profit in January, 15% on that revenue would be $150. That just seems a lot on top of the 3% processing fees.

Is there a way to separate out platform fees vs. donations so that if I am charging $49 per month subscription fee, the 15% app revenue share is only calculated on the platform fee and the donations are passed through to the charities after the 3% processing fee.

Hi @Mirvise

This is a pretty rare use case, but I’m digging into this on my side. Since it’s a unique scenario I’ll send you a DM on this forum with more details.

Sounds good, Liam. Thanks!
