Does anyone know if the “$1/month for first 3 months” trial period applies to dev stores that are transferred to a client?
I don’t think so, mate. I’ve tried to transfer and utilize the $1 promo, but the option didn’t show on my client side. This was last year, so I’m not sure if there have been any changes now.
I had also asked this in the Help Center Assistant chat box, and it stated, “there’s always a free trial available for any plan”, but I’m not sure I trust that info. I’m pretty sure that’s just an AI chat bot.
Hey Jason. I can confirm that development stores are not eligible for free trials or promos.

Thanks for that info @KyleG-Shopify. So when I transfer a development store to a client, how long do they have to pick a payment plan?
I don’t think there is a time limit for that. If you see different though, let us know!
Huh, so once the store ownership is transferred, the client can still develop it without any monthly payments, until they pick a plan and launch? That doesn’t really seem like the Shopify way from my experience.
Sorry, I think I misunderstood your question. Once you transfer ownership, the shop is frozen until the merchant picks a plan.
