Inquiry: Is it possible to add App Proxy URL for a private (custom) app?

Hello Shopify Support Team,

I hope you are well.

I am developing a private (custom) app for my Shopify store and would like to confirm whether it is possible to configure an App Proxy URL for such an app.

I have explored the app configuration options under Develop apps in my store admin, but I am unable to find a section to set up an App Proxy route. Could you please clarify:

:one: Is App Proxy supported for private (custom) apps?
:two: If so, how can I add or request an App Proxy URL for my app?
:three: Are there any specific requirements or steps I need to follow?

For context, here are my store and app details:

  • Store: multi-location-v1.myshopify.com/
  • App name: Restrict Checkout

Hey @Manpreet_Singh !

For custom apps created directly in the store admin (under Develop apps), there isn’t currently a setting to configure app proxy URLs.

The recommended approach is to build your custom app through the Partner Dashboard instead, where you’ll have full access to app proxy configuration along with other advanced features like app extensions.

If you move to building through the Partner Dashboard, you can still use custom distribution to keep your app private to your specific store or organization. This gives you the privacy of a custom app with all the advanced features available to Partner Dashboard apps.
