Is This Normal Shopify Test Store Behavior?

Hi everyone,

I have a Shopify app and while reviewing some old ( 2 months ago ) stores/events, I noticed something very strange from what looks like a test store.

One store repeatedly did the following flow around 65 times in a short period:

This happened across multiple pricing plans and generated a huge amount of subscription activate/cancel events.

I’m trying to understand whether this is:

  • normal behavior from Shopify test stores,

  • some kind of automated QA/testing,

  • a bot/script,

  • or potentially abusive behavior.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with their apps?

Also, is there any recommended way to protect apps from excessive subscription creation/cancellation loops like this?

I can share more details if you needed.

Thanks.

This looks suspicious to me. With a store name like outranked I suspect a bad actor is trying to abuse some metrics in their favor.

FWIW the Shopify audits I’ve seen are way lower in volume and closer to normal user behavior, including small amounts of reinstall flows

@Kyle_W I’m sorry for the misunderstanding; I didn’t share the store name because I wasn’t sure if it was correct. Outranked is actually the name of my app

The store name is PJG1; it looked suspicious to me too.

Haha whoops! Regardless, if you’re suspicious I would reach out to Shopify Support

Haha thank you  Yes I’m gonna reach out to Shopify Support now. Actually, it doesn’t seem like there’s any danger now that some time has passed, but I still want to be sure
