MobilePay through Shopify Payments does not support partial payment capture

We’ve noticed that with the recent introduction of MobilePay as a supported local payment method under Shopify Payments, it currently does not allow partial capture of authorized transactions. Initially this was not documented in the help page, but it has been updated since.

This is particularly problematic in Denmark, where it is legally required to only capture payment when goods are shipped, and in many scenarios, this results in partial fulfillment and therefore partial captures. Attempting to partially capture an authorized MobilePay payment results in an error:

“MobilePay authorization transaction does not support partial payment capture.”

This behavior seems inconsistent with other MobilePay integrations via third-party gateways, which do support partial capture. We suspect this may be an unintended limitation or oversight in the current Shopify Payments implementation.

Could you confirm:

  1. Whether this limitation is intentional.

  2. If not, whether support for partial capture with MobilePay is on the roadmap.

  3. If yes (intentional), how Shopify recommends merchants using Shopify Payments with MobilePay in Denmark comply with local consumer protection laws requiring capture upon shipment.

This limitation makes MobilePay via Shopify Payments effectively non-compliant for many Nordic merchants, and clarification would help us better advise our clients.
