Persistent Sidekick input creates confusion for AI apps

Hi Shopify team,

We build Fudge, an AI agent embedded in Shopify Admin. In the refreshed desktop Admin design, the persistent Sidekick input appears immediately below our app’s own chat input, leaving merchants with two chat boxes stacked together.

Because Sidekick appears within the same visual area as our app, it can look like part of Fudge. That creates ambiguity about which assistant a merchant is messaging, whether it has the context of their current conversation, and which product will carry out their request.

We already account for --shopify-safe-area-inset-bottom and have added visual separation around the reserved area. This helps with spacing, but the ambiguity remains: two separate assistants are presenting nearly identical ways to interact in the same place.

Could Shopify consider allowing conversational embedded apps to collapse or opt out of the persistent bottom composer, while keeping Sidekick accessible through the Admin navigation? A clearer separation between Shopify’s assistant and the embedded app would also help.

Is there a recommended design pattern for apps whose primary interface is a conversation? I’d also be interested to hear how other developers are handling this.

Thanks in advance!

it creates confusion for every app.

They know about this, otherwise they wouldn’t remove that bar in home page.

Adding the sidekick is a huge problem! It freaking overlays buttons of our app and users can’t even minimize/close it.

We went through quite a strict review process for Built For Shopify, where we were explicitely told not to include in app support chat button that overlays other buttons in the app. Now for it to be fully disregarded by Shopify themselves.

Shopify team, any updates? We need a fix for this.

+1 on this, wild how Shopify just rolled this out without giving App owners a heads up.

+1 yes, this is terrible. It shouldn’t be displayed over apps. And yes, by the way, would be nice to know this stuff is coming before it just gets blatently slapped on.
