Shopify CLI 4.7.0 Theme Access returns 401 on publicApiVersions for theme list and theme dev

I have reproduced the issue on the latest CLI version.

In which of these areas are you experiencing a problem?

Theme

Expected behavior

When authenticating with a valid Theme Access password, shopify theme list should return the store’s themes and shopify theme dev should start the development theme session successfully.

Actual behavior

Theme Access authentication fails when running theme list or theme dev.

The CLI sends a GraphQL publicApiVersions query to the Theme Access endpoint and receives HTTP 401:

[API] Invalid API key or access token (unrecognized login or wrong password)

The Theme Access password has already been regenerated and tested again, but the same error persists.

Shopify Support reviewed the issue and advised me to report it here with the request ID so the CLI / Theme Access team can investigate.

Reproduction steps

  1. Install Shopify CLI 4.7.0 on Windows.
  2. Install the Shopify Theme Access app on the store.
  3. Generate a new Theme Access password.
  4. Run:

shopify.cmd theme list --store veyrissa.com.myshopify.com --password [REDACTED] --verbose

  1. The CLI sends the publicApiVersions GraphQL query.
  2. The request returns HTTP 401.
  3. Regenerate the Theme Access password and repeat the test.
  4. The same 401 error occurs.

The issue also occurs with shopify theme dev.

@veyrissa Can you confirm you’re using the correct myshopify.com URL? This CLI command requires the original myshopify.com URL, which may differ from the URL you see in the admin.
