When you are in an app in the Shopify mobile app (at least on iOS) and you have a max modal open. If you allow your device to automatically lock after inactivity or lock your screen, when you unlock and the Shopify mobile app comes back up, the modal is now gone and the app is refreshed.
This causes any state to be lost in the max modal. In our case, we use the max modal for an editing experience for our email editor and merchants who are working on something for a while will lose their changes.
In addition to that, the mobile app appears to be in a broken state where there’s a “Back” button at the top and none of the app bridge primary or secondary buttons show. So you have to manually close the app and re-open it.
I’m facing the same problem, and sometimes when I open Max Modal, the entire page goes blank, and clicking the back button at the top does nothing, but everything works fine in the browser environment.
We have a good amount of merchants that are hitting this issue now. This can be produced pretty quickly with our app Seguno Email:
- Create a new newsletter.
- Customize the content (you’ll be in the editor).
- Lock your screen, or let it sit idle, or navigate to another app on your device.
- Go back into the Shopify app and the screen will refresh (with the modal closed) and the “Back” button from the modal will be visible, but not working.
- At this point, the Shopify app’s header is no longer functional and you need to force quit it.
I would expect the max modal to continue to be in the state it was in when the app is resumed, which is how it used to work.
Hi @marcbaumbach
Are you still experiencing this issue?
Hi @Liam-Shopify, yes this is still happening.
