Hi Shopify Dev Community,
I’m looking for guidance on a custom inventory visibility and fulfillment solution for our US Shopify storefront.
Our current setup:
-
We operate a US Shopify storefront with two fulfillment centers: one in the US and one in Canada.
-
Each fulfillment center maintains its own inventory.
-
Mainland US orders should be fulfilled from our US warehouse.
-
Orders from US territories (e.g., Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands) we would like to fulfilled from our Canadian warehouse and treated as INTL.
The challenge:
Because US territories fall under the US market in Shopify, our storefront is currently displaying inventory availability from our US warehouse.
However, we need customers shopping from US territories to see inventory availability from our Canadian warehouse, since that’s where their orders will be fulfilled.
This creates an issue where products may appear available or sold out based on US inventory, even though Canadian inventory levels are different.
What we’re trying to achieve:
-
Keep our existing US storefront and Shopify Markets configuration.
-
Display US warehouse inventory for mainland US customers.
-
Display Canadian warehouse inventory for customers in US territories.
-
Route US territory orders to our Canadian fulfillment center.
Questions for the community:
-
Is there a way to customize inventory visibility by US territory without creating a separate Shopify Market or storefront?
-
Can Shopify Functions, the Storefront API, or a custom app override which fulfillment location’s inventory is displayed based on a customer’s shipping destination?
-
Are there any known limitations or recommended workarounds?
Our preference is to keep everything within our existing US Shopify storefront while ensuring customers see accurate inventory based on their fulfillment location.
Any guidance or examples of similar implementations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
