Hi all,
Is it just me or should inventory quantities not be leaked to the user via the Storefront MCP? Shopify has released a feature "New Add-to-cart Limit" where states:
When a customer tries to add an item to their cart for a quantity greater than your available inventory for the product, the cart automatically adjusts the quantity down to match the available inventory. However, this can inadvertently reveal inventory information to your customers.
Now you just present this in the MCP for each customer (tool) to see?
Hi @AdminGh
Thanks for flagging this behaviour - looking into it now and will connect with our internal team if required.

Hi again @AdminGh
We’re unable to replicate what you’re seeing - what tool did you call to see inventory on?
@Liam-Shopify I used the new MCP server option in the ChatGPT playground, you do need to ask the details, it’s not in the overview results. So you use get_product_details
Hope this helps: https://cdn.shopify.com/videos/c/o/v/452f6d631f3548a4a2e2ffddb4e7d1d6.mp4
Thanks @AdminGh - the details you’ve will be helpful for our team to evaluate this. Will update here asap!
Update: this does look like an unintentional issue, we’re continuing to look into this.
Update: we’ve shipped a change to prevent this data from being available. Thanks for flagging @AdminGh
