Theme Blocks: Unable to Move Blocks Across Nesting Levels in Theme Editor

I’ve encountered a limitation in the Theme Editor’s new theme blocks feature regarding block group movement.

Issue Description

If a block group is created at a specific nesting level (e.g., level 3), it is not possible to move it to a different level of nesting (e.g., level 1). The editor only allows moving the blocks within the same level where it was initially created.

The expected behavior is that the editor should allow flexibility to move blocks across different nesting levels, enabling better organization and restructuring of blocks as needed.

This restriction makes it challenging to restructure layouts, especially when working with deeply nested block hierarchies. It forces users to recreate groups or blocks at a different level manually, which is time-consuming and prone to errors.

Request

It would be helpful if the Theme Editor supported moving blocks across different nesting levels. This enhancement would greatly improve the usability and flexibility of the Theme Editor.

Hey @ahmedbm, allowing blocks to be dragged and dropped across compatible ancestors is at the top of our roadmap.
