Search and Discovery app already defines a couple of metafields to help customize the app behavior.
We need one more metafield to help merchants control product’s relevancy in collections in search.
The metafield should accept a single decimal value and be used to weight product relevancy within a collection (when sorting by relevancy) and search.
I.e. merchants could increase product relevancy in collections and search by providing a higher than 1 value (1.2) or decrease it’s relevancy by providing a lower than 1 value (0.8).
Use cases
- Older products normally show higher in relevancy due to higher lifetime sales. However, for merchants with large catalogs it is important to be able to push older products slightly down and bring newer products slightly up in the collection/search results. Product boosts don’t work here as they are limited to specific key words and simply “pin” products to the top of the collection/search rather than influencing product’s relevancy.
