I’m currently starting out as a Shopify web designer, mainly building storefronts through vibe coding and AI-assisted development.
At this point, I rely heavily on AI for almost everything, from designing and customizing themes to building complete stores. Most of my projects are development stores or client transfer stores that haven’t started actual operations yet.
While I can get things done, I sometimes feel like I’m not developing enough actual skills or progressing professionally. Vibe coding has made building storefronts relatively easy, but I know there’s much more to Shopify and e-commerce than just designing websites.
For those experienced in this field, what skills or career paths would you recommend exploring beyond storefront development?
Should I focus on Shopify development, e-commerce operations, CRO, SEO, marketing, automation, or something else?
I’d really appreciate advice from people who have been in this industry and understand what skills are genuinely valuable in the long run.
