Why can't Sidekick add app blocks in the theme editor?

Sidekick currently can’t add app blocks/embed to a theme. It can only:

  • Turn on/configure an installed app embed.
  • Move an app block that’s already in the template.
  • Add a Custom Liquid block with specific content.
  • Sidekick can’t add a new instance of an installed app block, even in a section that accepts app blocks. When asked, it said the editor doesn’t expose the app block as an insertable preset to its tools.

Adding the same block by hand through Add block > Apps works fine.

This would help many merchants. Placing app blocks is one of the most common setup steps, and it’s where many merchants get stuck. If Sidekick could add an app block when asked (“add the [App] block below the price”), merchants could finish setup without a manual walkthrough or code changes.

Questions:

  1. Is app block insertion by Sidekick on the roadmap?
  2. Is there anything an app can declare in its block schema today so that Sidekick can insert it?

Thanks!
