Admin bug? Metaobject theme template reverting to default theme template

Is this a Shopify admin bug, or am I misunderstanding how Metaobject templates work? I’ve tested this on a brand new Shopify test account on the latest Dawn theme and confirm the issue persists. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?

  1. I successfully create a metaobject and associated default template.
  2. I successfully create a new metaobject template and assign it to the metaobject. It works as expected and see the Metaobject with the proper assigned template and content on the frontend of the site. Custom tuna theme template selected in the admin.

  1. Now when I navigate away from this Shopify admin page for the Tuna metaobject instance, and then navigate back to it, the Theme template has reverted back to the default theme template for this metaobject.

My desire would be to have this metaobject instance stay persistent in the admin settings.

Just to confirm, are you hitting the save button here:

Thanks for the reply, Liam. Indeed, I was saving the metaobject instance.

The issue as I described happened for a week across multiple Shopify accounts, and test sites, and even in private browsers. I was truly thorough as to verify if I was going mad or not. I had opened a support ticket that more or less went ignored, but perhaps it was escalated to the right person. I’m unsure because I didn’t get a support ticket resolution follow-up.

BUT, I can just now absolutely confirm that the chosen custom metaobject template is no longer reverting to the default when I revisit the metaobject instance in the Shopify admin.

Let’s consider this resolved.

Hi again - it sounds like this was a temporary bug. Let me know if you run into any other issues.
