App Store review updates: New tools to speed up submissions

Hello Shopify Community,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out because our app has been pending App Store review since April 9, 2026, and we still haven’t received any response or status update from the review team.

We’ve already addressed every requirement we could verify on our end (session token authentication, removed public shop-input forms, GDPR webhooks configured, GraphQL Admin API only, valid TLS on all production domains, etc.) and we’re confident the submission meets the App Store requirements. Our app is published as Free, since it acts as a connector between Shopify and our external OMS/ERP platform — no in-app billing involved.

What concerns us is the silence. Almost a month has passed without feedback, additional questions, or even an acknowledgment that the review is in progress. We understand the team is busy and reviews take time, but typical timelines we’ve seen in the docs and other forum threads suggest a response within 5–10 business days.

If a Shopify staff member or moderator could:

  • Confirm whether our submission is in the active review queue,

  • Or point us to a channel where we can get a status update,

we would deeply appreciate it. We’re ready to act on any feedback immediately.

Happy to share our app name and Partner organization ID privately with any Shopify Staff member who can help look into this. I’d rather not post the app ID publicly here.

Thank you for your time, and thanks in advance to anyone who can guide us forward.

Best regards,
Jose D.

Welp, our review happened today. While waiting for our review we migrated auth providers and all passwords were reset. In order to update the original submission, we would need to withdraw our request (why is that?), so we reached out to support and they kindly added a note to our submission with the new password for the test account.

Unfortunately, the reviewer did not read that note and sent a screencast of a failed login showing the originally submitted password. I resubmitted within 15 minutes of the “failure” but now we’re back in the queue - likely waiting another 6+ weeks.

I’m sure there will be a valid reason for failing our app once it’s actually reviewed, but it’s extremely disappointing that we’re now pushed another indefinite amount of time due to poor internal comms and no way to update a submission in queue.

Sharing this as a warning for others not to count on anything like that for your own submissions.

Hi Shopify App Store Team,

I’m following up on my app ‘Akkedli’, which was submitted for review on April 1st, 2026.

The current status is ‘Submitted - Assigning a reviewer’, and it has remained in this state for over 5 weeks. I’ve double-checked our contact information (support@akkedli.com) and confirmed there are no ‘Action Needed’ flags or outstanding requests in the Partner Dashboard.

This extended delay is significantly impacting our business launch and marketing schedule. Could the team please look into this to see if the submission is stuck in the queue? We are ready to address any feedback immediately.

Thank you for your assistance!

Hello,

For me, the most frustrating thing was that the API key provided for testing my application wasn’t, at first glance, the correct one. In reality, the problem stemmed from the “test account” section of Shopify, where, due to the large API key, not everything was copied during the copy/paste process.

The result? Back to square one for submitting the application.

The most frustrating aspect of all this is truly the lack of communication from Shopify. It would be helpful to have:

  • The ability to communicate directly with the reviewer to avoid potential back-and-forth issues like mine. It was resolved in 10 seconds.

  • An approximate review date displayed in the Partner Dashboard, even if it’s known it won’t necessarily be met, at least it gives a general idea. Easy to implement. Simply calculate the average review time for an app, plus the number of available reviewers, and do this over a given period.

I look forward to discussing this further with the Shopify team to improve the process. I don’t intend to stop adding features to this fantastic CMS.

Have a good evening!

The back to square 1 part is the most frustrating. I waited 8 weeks just to be told I should have turned a checkbox off in the application. I actually realized that during the wait, but you can’t modify the application without being sent back to the end of the line.

I’m also pretty sure there are other issues with my submission, but the reviewer stopped at that point and didn’t review anything else. They really should review the entire application and give you a complete list of issues so you can fix everything at once with less back-and-forth. Honestly, that alone could be a big reason for the long wait times.

They could also massively reduce review load by creating some kind of automated “dev store” pre-check system. Let us connect a Pre check dev store to the application ahead of review and automatically validate the majority of the common requirements and configuration issues before a human ever touches it. That would cut down on failed submissions, reduce reviewer workload, and prevent people from wasting months waiting on avoidable problems.

At this point, it honestly feels like they’re intentionally adding friction.
