App uninstall feedback

When user clicks to uninstalls an app, they see a modal to select uninstall reason, but most users simply click Uninstall without selecting a reason. After 50 uninstalls I get 1 message “Difficult to setup or use” and 1 message “Limited or missing features”
Also, there is no field for custom message, user can only select from predefined uninstall reasons which don’t help me. For example “Difficult to setup or use” does not say what exactly is the problem.

Is there a better way to collect user feedback on app uninstall?

  1. Am I allowed to send email to user after app uninstall to ask for a feedback?

  2. Can I add a custom Uninstall button to app dashboard, that will show a custom modal with uninstall feedback form, and Uninstall button that will trigger the default uninstall flow?

I’d be keen to hear someone at Shopify respond to this - I also find it frustrating as a developer having no idea why a customer has uninstalled your app!

I don’t think there’s much anyone can do to “force” brands to leave feedback, especially on uninstall. The data is definitely question-able!

Would it be a viable approach to send an email asking for additional feedback, on uninstall?

I ended up adding a live chat support to the app dashboard, which generates a little more user feedback than the app uninstall modal. Most users still prefer to just quietly uninstall the app, without asking for support or reporting a missing feature.
