Bulk Editor - Stop Auto Adding Category / Shopify Generated Metafields

Short description of issue

When using the bulk editor, it auto adds a ton of category/shopify generated metafields to the UI, slowing down the infinite load and requiring a manual step to ‘untick’ the various metafields that aren’t needed.

Reproduction steps

  1. Select multipl products
  2. Click Bulk Edit
  3. Watch all the Shopify generated metafields be auto added as categories.

Additional info

Shopify generated / category level metafields should not be auto added by default when bulk editing. They should act in the same way as any other metafield and only appear when they’re actively selected.

On a catalogue of varying product types, this currently functionality just pollutes the bulk editor with tons of unnecessary metafields that often aren’t even used, they’re just Shopify’s suggested metafields.

This then requires you to untick them all manually, which you then have to do every time you hit the infinite load as it just re-adds them all.

Please, turn this off or make it configurable - it makes the bulk editor horrible to use.

Hey @Lewis, thanks for reporting this.

I’ve submitted the auto add of the categories as a feature request for you.

I was also able to replicate the behaviour where it auto adds the columns when scrolling. I’m looking in to that now and will report back with what I find.

Agree, maybe “un/check all” button next to Category Metafields would be great, can Imagine some people prefer it to be auto added, but then it’s easy to uncheck them all.
