We’re seeing intermittent long stalls with productVariantsBulkUpdate through bulkOperationRunMutation on Admin API 2026-07, across several stores.
Examples below, using the numeric part of each BulkOperation ID:
- 9537339195701 — 100 products / 493 variants. Ran for approximately 115 minutes with intermittent progress before we requested cancellation
- 8751834300671 — 2 products. Approximately 57 minutes before the first reported progress, completing after roughly 91 minutes
- 8613955797265 — 1 product. Approximately 37 minutes at zero progress before completing
- 12555543314819 — 584 products. Approximately 19 minutes at zero progress before completing
These operations remained RUNNING through long plateaus in rootObjectCount, without a reported errorCode.
The mutation updates price, compareAtPrice and a metafield. Synchronous recovery succeeded in the first case, but we separated the price and metafield updates, so that doesn’t isolate the cause. Retry overlaps occurred during recovery, after the initial stall.
Has anyone encountered similar behaviour? Could Shopify investigate these operation IDs and advise how to distinguish a slow operation from a stalled one, and safely cancel and retry it?
