Can we programmatically extend a customer's trial beyond the initial period?

Hi everyone,

We offer a 10-day trial on all our plans using Shopify’s built-in trial functionality during app subscription setup.

However, many of our users are still in the process of building or migrating their stores and often request an extension. Currently, we have two imperfect workarounds:

  1. Apply app credits – but this still bills the user and then applies credit to subsequent subscriptions, which is confusing and not ideal.
  2. Whitelist and cancel – we manually whitelist the shop, cancel the current subscription, and prompt them to resubscribe later. It works, but it’s clunky and adds friction.

What we’d ideally like:
Keep the customer on their existing trial and extend it by X days without needing to cancel or apply credits.

From what I can tell, Shopify doesn’t currently support trial extensions once the billing agreement is created. Is that correct?

And if so, are there any plans to add support for this?
Would love to hear how other app developers are handling this as well.
