Short description of issue
The theme editor no longer provides an option to duplicate files. Previously I could right-click a file (or use the file menu) and select “Duplicate” to create a copy, but that option has disappeared from the interface.
Reproduction steps
- Open the theme editor / code editor.
- Locate en.default.json (or any existing file) and look for a “Duplicate” option (right-click menu or file actions) - it is no longer present.
- As an alternative, open the file, select all content (CTRL+A), and copy it with Ctrl+C.
- Create a new locale file and paste with Ctrl+V.
- Observe that the pasted content is cut off.
Additional info
Copying it with Ctrl+C, then pasting it into a new file with Ctrl+V doesn’t work reliably either - the pasted content gets truncated, so the new file ends up missing part of the original.
This bug has been going on ever since the new theme editor has been forced upon users.

Ah! I remember this: there’s no dedicated “Duplicate” option because you can copy/paste files.
I also wasn’t able to reproduce the copy/paste bug you mention. Is there a particular file type or theme that this only happens in?
Going to try again tomorrow but I think copy and paste also doesnt work in file tree in firefox, even if you use mouse
yes it doesnt work, even with enhanced protection disabled.
You can see here that both copying and pasting the file contents and the file itself doesn’t work as intended:
When you try copying the file contents the clipboard content gets truncated.
When you try to paste the new file it shows “en.default.json already exists” in console
I’m able to copy/paste files and content without issue in Firefox. Could one of your browser extensions be doing something?
Alternatively feel free to give me a request ID so I can backtrack to the Shop/Theme ID to see if it’s something specific with the theme.
