Collection Filters - Now requires "Shopify Network Intelligence"

Short description of issue

Shopify Search & Discovery App now requires you to turn on and use “Shopify Network Intelligence” - it’s no longer optional

Reproduction steps

Install Search & Discovery App

Additional info

So I went to update the filters on a clients website, to discover the Search & Discovery App was no longer installed (a little odd) after attempting to re-install, I was prompted with this (see image).

So now, in order to use Filters you have to agree and turn on “Shopify Network Intelligence” which requires sharing anonymized customer data and also adjusting your terms, privacy policies and ensuring that you have opt out pages for sale of data.

I feel that this should be optional, i.e. you can only use the features in Search & Discovery that actually use this data - such as smart product recommendations, I don’t see why something as basic as filters should be behind this data requirement?

Hi @ceri_waters

Thanks for describing this - it doesn’t look like there’s currently granular permission settings where you can use certain features like filtering without enabling SNI. Digging into this internally though.

Thanks @Liam-Shopify - the “Install” button is disabled until SNI is enabled unfortunately

From digging into this, it does look like we’d need to move the filtering feature out of the S&D app for it to be available without enabling SNI, which is not currently on the roadmap. Is this a blocker for the client?

Thanks @Liam-Shopify, well it’s a big feature block as clients may not necessarily want to enable SNI, this client in particular has agreed to, but I know some of our other clients have much stricter GDPR requirements.

Understand this could be a restriction for merchants - I’ve highlighted your feedback to the product team who owns this area.
