Communication about Shopify POS issues

Hi POS team,

I just saw that that Shopify POS v11.6.1 was released, with the release notes “Fixes two critical memory issues”.

Over the last week or so, we have received many complaints from merchants, and even lost merchants, due to extreme lag and performance degredation in our app.

I’ve spent several days trying to figure out where the issue is, and then as soon as I saw & applied the 11.6.1 update, our app was back to performing as normal again.

I’m wondering if there could be a newsletter or forum post updates here to keep POS app developers up to date when there are issues like this, so that we are aware of known bugs on POS? This will greatly help us with communicating with merchants, and also save us time investigating bugs within our own apps.

I really appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback, and I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m complaining all the time; on the contrary, we absolutely love building on POS and we are so thankful for the incredible work that the POS dev team are doing. We’re just making some small suggestions to make things even better

Thank you so much,
Adam

Thanks @adamwooding for spotting this. Our apps have also been plagued by performance degradations throughout the past couple of months that have been challenging to reproduce on our own device / account - from Product Search API not returning a complete list for larger catalog merchants, to the dreaded “Not found” or “Failed to fetch variant XXXXX” POS cart issues. In many cases, performance issues appeared to increasingly affect larger merchants / busier time periods which wasn’t as much the case in the past (the only case I can think of in the past was candy merchants on Valentine’s Day, for example).

Can the POS team share / acknowledge what critical memory issues were fixed here? It would be great to confirm that what our apps been battling recently is indeed not the “new normal.”
