Hey guys,
We recently got approval for our app
One thing we are thinking through and want to manage is giving a great experience to merchants once we make it discoverable on the App Store.
The mechanism we are thinking of using for this is to create a waitlist so after a merchant install their app, we can throttle the demand and make sure they have a good onboarding.
Couple of questions:
- is this allow based on App Store policy?
- assuming it is, have others do this and did you run into any issues with merchants?
Thanks so much!
Hi Fabien,
to create a waitlist so after a merchant install their app, we can throttle the demand and make sure they have a good onboarding.
Does this mean that merchants might install the app, but not get full access to the features until you’ve approved on your side? If so this might not be a great merchant experience as merchants might not be aware of the waitlist feature until after they’ve installed.
What I’ve seen app devs do for very new apps is to have the app unlisted (not displayed in the Shopify App Store search results or categories). Then you can share the app listing URL only with merchants that you want to install the app - this prevents too many merchants from installing the app before you’re ready. In this model only merchants that you’ve shared the URL with will install the app. See this doc for more info on app types: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/apps/app-type
