Customer Events and Google Youtube App Tracking

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are doing well.

So I have a question hope you all can help me with it. With my shopify i have implemented custom pixel (which include pageview and all ecommerce events) and also the google + youtube app. So will it duplicate my all data, as while testing via preview mode from GTM i can see tags firing once. But in network calls i can see multiple hits incoming.

I am 90% sure it will duplicate.

So i have another query, why we need customer events/ custom pixel in first place for Analytics tracking. And what is the best way if we need to work with both.

I’m wondering why if you’ve setup your ecommerce events via GTM and still using the Google & YouTube app, for what purpose?

Generally you’d take one of the following approaches:

  • Use just the Google & YouTube app, with no GTM setup.
  • Custom events required - use the Google & YouTube app, then also use GTM to track any custom events, e.g. ‘Added to wishlist’.
  • Use GTM to manage everything and uninstall/disable the Google & YouTube app

Hi Luke i Did that for test purpose how full proof the Google Youtube App is, and what about if i need to add Pixels for GoogleAds , Meta, Tiktok can i use customer events pixels or i directly do all the Non Google Stuffs via GTM.

Also does it will duplicate data for google ads?
As i can i made a conversion tag in Tag which is firing and the second google ads tag with (add_to_cart is that from shopify google and youtube app?

As i saw its initiator that grew my curiosity, it maybe coming for Google Ads, i am thinking correct?
