Discount Allocator

Is there any update on when this might become available in GA? I believe it’s now been in developer preview for 1 year and a half!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the new discount API may make the need for the allocator less important, but does this mean it’s going away?

Hey @bkspace - just following up on this older thread as there have been some changes. Apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

The Discounts Allocator Function API developer preview has now ended, and the API won’t be released. Shopify’s native discount controls now cover most use cases, so discount allocation will remain with Shopify’s platform logic.

If there’s a use case that the Discounts Allocator Function API covered but the Discount Function API doesn’t, please let us know what you’re trying to achieve.

Full details and any required app changes are in the changelog.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Wes-Dev-Shopify,we’re currently looking for a way to have a specific product behave similarly to Shopify gift card products when discounts are applied.

Specifically, we want the product to remain in the cart but be excluded from order-level discount calculations, just as gift cards are. For example, if a customer applies an order discount, the discount should apply to the other eligible products in the cart but not to this specific product.

We’ve looked into several apps, but the solutions we’ve found only prevent customers from using certain discount codes when the product is in the cart. That isn’t quite what we need—we still want customers to be able to use their discounts; we just need this particular product excluded from the discount calculation.

Is there a way to replicate Shopify’s gift card discount behavior for a regular product?

Hey @Jordan_King - the only way to do this is by ‘excluding’ the products from the discount in the first place - for example, you could create a collection for ‘All except ’, and only use this when targeting discounts.
