Get verify for customer scope

I have an app that has been running successfully for almost two years. Now, I want to add a new feature that requires read and write access to customers.

Before proceeding, I need clarification:

  • Should I update my app first and then submit it for review?
  • Or can I submit the request now, get approval, and then update the app afterward?

For context, I am currently testing the feature in a staging environment and haven’t deployed it to production yet.

I’d appreciate any insights from those familiar with Shopify’s review process. Thanks!

I would review our Protected customer data documentation for more context on this — it’s our primary source of truth here.

Every app has different scenarios & needs, but for your app, I would consider going ahead and submitting your request, if you’re confident it captures all of the additional data needs that the app is seeking.

If you update your app to request customer data, unapproved fields requested via our APIs will have redacted values. See the examples in this section.
