Getting Extension Registration not found error while migrating app to CLI for the first time

Hello Team,

I am migrating my sales channel app (It has an Admin link extension) from Partner Dashboard to Shopify CLI. I executed the following commands,

shopify app config link
shopify app import-extensions

shopify app deploy

But I am getting “Extension Registration not found“ error during deployment. Please suggest me how can I solve this.

Hi @Himanshu_Sahu,

To start with troubleshooting, can I ask you to confirm that you are using the latest version of the CLI with the shopify version command.

If you are using the latest version, can you confirm that the shopify app import-extensions command created the extension directories as mentioned in the documentation:

And if you can please share the contents in the shopify.extension.toml file that is generated?

Let me know if anything else is needed.

Hey @Himanshu_Sahu,

Thank you for providing that context, at this time I am currently looking into this behaviour further with our developers internally, and I will follow up in the thread once we have more information to share.

Additionally there is some more context we will need to request from you to help look into this further, I will be sending you a DM with more information.

Hi!

I have the same issue. Have you found any solution?

Regards,
Edwin

Hi @Edvstu,

Thanks for confirming this issue is occurring on your end as well, this does help us scope the issue more accurately.

At this time we have no updates to share though I can confirm that our developers are looking into this behaviour in further detail, and I will share any updates in this thread directly when available.

Hi everyone, I am also experiencing this issue. I’ve tried to follow the instructions here: Migrate to admin link extensions

But I also receive the “Extension Registration not found”.

Any update or a timeline on this would be great as its blocking releasing an app update for our customers.

Cheers

Hi @Bsmubbs,

No updates yet, but again I can assure you that our developers are aware of this issue and are actively working on a fix as quickly as possible!

Unfortunately we are unable to provide any estimated timelines, due to the technical complexity of issues such as these, and the need to be cautious of adjacent areas on the platform that might be affected by any changes made in fixing this.

I will be sure to share any updates in the thread here as soon as we have any more information or a fix is released.

Now with Shopify CLI 3.85.5, you get the new error:

An error occurred while attempting to migrate the extension type from app_link to app_link.

Hi @Bsmubbs,

I can confirm our developers have released a fix for the previous error reported, and are currently aware and working on a fix for the new error that you are experiencing.

I’ll be sure to follow up here when I see the fix has been released.

@Kellan-Shopify Now I am getting the new error,

An error occurred while attempting to migrate the extension type from app_link to app_link.

Hi @Himanshu_Sahu,

Thank you for reporting this new behaviour, this was also reported earlier in this thread by another user, and I can confirm that this is something our developers are currently aware of and are working on a fix further at this time.

I’ll be following up in this thread when we have an update with more information, or when a fix is released.

Version 3.86.1 still throws the same error. Do we have a timeframe for a fix?

Hi @Bsmubbs,

I can confirm our developers are still working on this diligently and a fix should be released soon, however due to the technical complexity of the behaviour and the need to be cautious of other parts of the platform that any changes may affect, we are unable to provide any estimated timeframes for when a fix will be released.

I can assure you that we are working on this as quickly as possible, and I’m actively keeping an eye on the progress and will update you here when the fix is released!

A fix for the remaining problematic dashboard managed extensions has just been deployed an hour ago. Can you try again and let us know if this problem still persists?

Yeah I am speaking with one of the devs on Slack. Still no good. Same error. Full response has been sent across.

It looks that it’s finally working, at least for @Bsmubbs.

If anyone still has problems, please tell us!
