Issue with deeplinking to app from admin orders page

I am building a pre-order app. App reviewer is asking us to implement a deeplink from the Shopify admin order page to our app. Here is the specific point in question.

Include a direct link to Orders in the Shopify Admin from the app’s order section. See this screencast for additional details.

When clicking on the preorder button in the orders page, there is no extra query parameter when being redirected to the app. How can we detect if the app is opened through the admin order page? I couldn’t find any documentation related to this functionality.

Hey @Rishabh_Tayal :waving_hand: - have you looked into Admin Links as a possibility?

Looking at the screencast, this might be what we’re referring to. Let me know if this works or if I can help out further, just ping me here!

The reason our app was rejected was because it’s not properly deeplinking into our app from the “pre-order" link in the order page. We can create an admin link extension but that wouldn’t directly solve this problem.

Thanks for confirming @Rishabh_Tayal , I appreciate the extra context here.

Just to understand a bit better in terms of how it’s built on my end, is the “pre‑order” button rendered from an Admin Action UI extension on the order page, or is it a hardcoded button/link in your embedded app UI that navigates back into one of your app routes directly/another method?

Please check the Screencast link that is attached in the original post. The pre-order button is added by Shopify on order detail admin page, similar to a subscriptions button.

By the way, I tried the admin link extension. That is not what app reviewer is referring to. The link in the pre-order button remains the same

Hi @Rishabh_Tayal - thanks for following up. I was able to speak with some folks internally on our App Review team and and asked me to direct you to an email from them that you should have received to follow up with them. They’ll be able to assist you once you respond to that email so that we’re able to continue with the review that way and to talk about the requirement that was flagged.

Hope this helps and thanks for your patience on this.

Thanks Alan,

Similarly the app reviewer also flagged deeplink from customers shopify admin page to our app. I don’t see any such feature in shopify docs. Seems like reviewer is strictly following the recommendations in the app review and not exactly aligning it to our app functionality and how it’s supposed to work.

Thanks for you help. I will look out for the email.

Hi @Alan_G I haven’t receieved any email yet.

Hi @Rishabh_Tayal - thanks for following up, happy to help out a bit further for sure. This should have been the initial email you would have received from our App Store review team containing the follow up from them, let me know if I can help out further at all and I can set up a DM with you to investigate further

I have re-submitted the app for review and explained the issue to the app reviewer with a link to this post. Let’s see what they come up with.

Again, thanks a lot.
