Hey guys, I just received an email with the subject line “Action required: Important changes to your JavaScript Buy SDK usage.”
But I’m confused and unsure of what I need to do.
I am using a customized version of Dawn 7.0.1 (that I customized). Does Dawn utilize the JS Buy SDK library? If so, I’m trying to figure out what I need to do to update it so our store continues to work properly.
I’ve been combing through our theme code, though, and can’t see any references to the JS Buy SDK library. Looking at the docs for that library it mentions that you can utilize the library via CDN using this script: .
But I’ve searched through our theme and used Chrome Dev Tools to search for any reference of “js-buy-sdk” and even “shopifycdn.com” and there isn’t anything related to the Buy SDK.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you!
Hello!
Does Dawn utilize the JS Buy SDK library?
No.
From JS Buy SDK Doc:
The JavaScript (JS) Buy SDK is a lightweight library that lets you add commerce to any website. It’s based on Shopify’s Storefront API and provides the ability to retrieve products and collections from your store, add products to a cart, and check out.
If you are not using JS Buy SDK on other ecommerce site(not Shopify store), you don’t need any action required.
Just a note - Dawn 7.1 is very outdated. The latest version is 15.3

Thanks so much @remy727. I’m confused as to why I received that email in the first place though. Still wondering if I need to take any action.
The email was sent to my email address that I use specifically for my Shopify store. And no, to my knowledge, I’m not using the SDK on any outside site.
I know we’re using Shopify’s integration with Facebook and Instagram to show our products there…also showing products on Spotify.
Any chance either of those integrations could be using the SDK? Obviously those aren’t apps we manage or have the ability to update.
Have you ever used Buy Button channel on your store?
Nope. I’m using the Online Store, Point of Sale, Spotify for Artists, Shop, and Facebook & Intagram sales channels.
Hi,
If you’re confident that you’re not using the Buy Button/ JS Buy SDK - then you can disregard the email. It’s possible the Buy Button channel was added and subsequently removed from your store, which could have caused this email to be sent.
Ok, sounds good, thank you!
